Chapter 3

Victor sat at his desk, engrossed in a file, letting the hum of the hospital fade into the background. The click of his pen and the soft rustle of paper filled the quiet space.

Adrian had been called away to handle a new case—a patient brought in under unusual circumstances. Victor didn’t think much of it. Patients came and went, and Adrian was more than capable of handling emergencies.

As time passed, Victor decided to step out for some air. Walking down the corridor, he noticed a crowd of 10 to 12 young adults, all around 20 years old, gathered near the door of one of the hospital rooms. Their faces were pale, and hushed murmurs filled the air.

His curiosity piqued when he noticed the door to the room was open. Inside, Adrian and a couple of nurses moved around the bed, their expressions tense and grim. The sight of his usually composed friend looking so troubled made Victor pause.

He was about to turn away when one of the nurses hurried out and approached him.

“Dr. Adrian is asking for you,” she said quickly, her voice edged with urgency.

Victor raised an eyebrow, glancing back at the room. Adrian wasn’t the type to call for help unless the situation was unusual.

Victor took a deep breath, his interest now fully piqued. As he approached the room, he saw Adrian’s tense face, his jaw clenched, and his focus entirely on the patient lying in the bed.
