Chapter 17

"She has to abort it," Ella said firmly.

Lucifer's gaze darkened slightly. "What do you mean, Ella?" he asked, his voice calm but laced with an undertone of something unreadable.

"Where is she? I need to go to her," Ella insisted, already shifting to get out of bed.

"Ella, sit down," he said, his voice carrying quiet authority.

She hesitated but looked at him defiantly. "Is she okay?"

Lucifer exhaled. "She's still unconscious."

Ella's heart pounded. "Why? Why is she unconscious?"

"Due to weakness," he replied, watching her reaction carefully.

"I need to go to her," she repeated, attempting to stand.

"Calm down, Ella," he said, placing a steadying hand on her shoulder. "First, take your medicines and change your clothes. Mom and Dad are on their way, and if they see you in a hospital gown, they'll worry even more."

She bit her lip, glancing at her attire before nodding reluctantly. "You're right… but Sofi—"

"I'm with her. Don't worry," he reassured, his voice softer this time.

She looked at him, studying his expression, before finally nodding.

Lucifer exhaled, tension still lingering in his posture.

---

"What happened to her?" Sofi’s father asked the moment they arrived at the hospital. His voice was thick with worry.

"She's not well, Dad," Lucifer responded, his tone measured.

Before Sofi’s father could press further, a female doctor approached. "Are you her parents?" she asked, glancing between them.

"Yes," Sofi’s father answered immediately.

"Please come with me," the doctor said, gesturing toward the hallway.

Sofi’s father hesitated, looking toward Lucifer.

"I'm here. You should go," Lucifer assured him.

Her father nodded and, without another word, followed the doctor with his wife.

Lucifer ran a hand through his hair, frustration bubbling under his skin. Damn it. I wanted to hear what they were going to talk about too.

***

Sofi’s parents sat stiffly in the doctor’s office, their hands tightly clasped together. The atmosphere was thick with tension, the ticking clock on the wall amplifying the weight of what was about to be discussed.

The doctor, a sharp-eyed woman in her forties, flipped through Sofi’s medical reports, then looked up, her gaze piercing. “Is your daughter in a relationship with someone?”

Sofi’s father cleared his throat, his voice rough. “No. She’s not.”

The doctor’s brows furrowed. “Then how come she’s pregnant?”

A heavy silence fell over the room. Her father’s grip on his wife’s hand tightened. His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. Then, in a barely audible voice, he said, “She was raped.”

The doctor’s fingers stilled over the file. Her eyes snapped up. “Wasn’t she brought to the hospital after the incident?”

Sofi’s father shook his head. “No… she wasn’t.”

A flicker of anger crossed the doctor’s face. “So you let it slide?” she asked sharply, her voice rising.

“No! Not exactly,” he said quickly. “We called a doctor to our home.”

The doctor let out a slow, disbelieving breath before slamming the file shut. “Don’t you understand that cases like this require hospital care? She should have been examined, given proper treatment, and—”

“It was her wedding day,” he cut in, his voice raw with frustration. “This incident… it already ruined her. There were guests outside. We didn’t want to make a scene.”

The doctor’s eyes darkened. “Did you catch him? Is he arrested?”

“No,” Sofi’s father admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “He was never found.”

The doctor’s jaw tightened. “Did the doctor who treated her at home give her emergency contraception?”

Silence. Sofi’s father hesitated, looking anywhere but at the doctor.

The doctor exhaled sharply, her patience wearing thin. “Sir, hesitating won’t change anything now. If you had brought her to the hospital, you wouldn’t be here answering these questions.”

“Yes,” Sofi’s mother spoke up, her voice trembling. “She was given the pills.”

The doctor scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief. “What kind of doctor didn’t even suggest taking her to a hospital?”

Sofi’s mother lowered her gaze. “It… it didn’t seem that serious.” Shame dripped from her voice.

The doctor’s expression turned ice-cold. “Didn’t seem that serious?” she repeated, her voice laced with fury. “And yet, here we are. That ‘not serious’ incident left your daughter pregnant with her rapist’s child.”

Sofi’s father clenched his fists. “We want to abort it.”

The doctor leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. “That’s not for you to decide anymore. When she wakes up, she will decide.”

“But—” Sofi’s mother started, only for the doctor to raise a hand, cutting her off.

“I need you to understand something before you push her toward a decision,” the doctor said, her tone severe. “Abortion is risky for her.”

Sofi’s mother stiffened. “What do you mean?”

The doctor’s gaze turned grave. “Her body was never ready for pregnancy. She may be an adult by age, but physically, she is weak. Both carrying this child and terminating it will be difficult for her.”

A shudder ran through Sofi’s mother. “But which is safer?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

The doctor sighed. “Carrying the child is possible—with proper care, nutrition, and medical support, she can give birth with minimal complications.” She hesitated, then added, “But if she chooses abortion… it could have severe consequences.”

Sofi’s father tensed. “What consequences?”

The doctor looked at them both, her expression grim. “If the procedure goes wrong, she might never be able to conceive again.”

The words hung in the air like a death sentence.

Sofi’s mother’s hands flew to her mouth, a strangled sob escaping her lips. Her father turned pale, gripping the arms of his chair.

A suffocating silence followed, filled only with the sound of their ragged breathing.

The doctor folded her hands on the desk, her gaze unwavering. “So before you decide anything, ask yourselves—can you live with that possibility?”

***

Lucifer paced outside the doctor's office, checking the time every few seconds. How long are they going to take? he thought impatiently. His fingers tapped against his arm as he leaned against the wall, his eyes flickering toward the closed door. The wait was unbearable.

Unable to stand still any longer, he turned toward Sofi’s hospital room and peeked through the small glass window on the door.

She was still unconscious. Peaceful. Unaware of everything happening around her.

His gaze softened. Congrats, Sofi… you're going to be a mother.

Just then, a nurse walked up beside him.

"Excuse me," she said, stepping past him into the room.

Lucifer moved aside, barely acknowledging her presence. His focus remained fixed on Sofi.

His lips curled into a faint smile as his thoughts ran wild.

Ella was speaking nonsense. Aborting the child? I will never let that happen. I know you, Sofi. You wouldn’t want that either… after all, it’s your child too.

A deep sense of possession settled within him, his fingers tightening into a fist.

Get healthy soon. I promise, I will take really good care of our child. No one will take this away from us.

His eyes darkened with silent determination as he continued watching her through the glass, waiting.

***

Sofi’s mother shook her head, as if refusing to accept the doctor’s words. “No… that can’t be.” Her voice wavered, her hands gripping the edge of the table.

The doctor sighed, her expression firm but not unkind. “I know this isn’t what you wanted to hear. But medically, this is the truth. Sofi’s body is fragile. Carrying a child will be difficult, but at least with proper care, it is possible. Termination, however…” She paused, choosing her words carefully. “…could leave permanent damage.”

Sofi’s father inhaled sharply. “But she can’t keep this child.” His voice, though quiet, held an undeniable finality. “It’s not just about her health. It’s about her future. How will she live with this?”

The doctor’s eyes flickered with restrained frustration. “That’s not your choice to make.”

Sofi’s mother wiped at her tear-streaked cheeks. “Doctor, you’re a woman. You must understand. How can she carry this… this reminder of what was done to her?”

The doctor’s gaze softened, but her stance didn’t waver. “I do understand. But forcing a decision on her is not the way. She must wake up and choose for herself. If she wants the abortion, we will proceed—but you need to know the risk. If she still wants to keep the baby despite how it happened, you must respect that, too.”

A heavy silence filled the room.

Sofi’s father looked away, his jaw clenched. He had never felt so powerless. He had always made decisions for his daughter, protected her, guided her. But now, he couldn’t fix this.

Sofi’s mother reached for his hand, her grip tight. “What if she can’t decide?” she whispered.

The doctor’s lips pressed into a thin line. “Then she needs time. And right now, what she needs more than anything is for her parents to be strong—for her, not for their own guilt.”

Sofi’s father shut his eyes, exhaling slowly. “We just want to do what’s best for her.”

“Then let her decide.” The doctor’s voice was steady, unyielding.

***

A knock at the door interrupted the tension. A nurse peeked in. “Doctor, she’s waking up.”

Sofi’s mother gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

Her father stood abruptly. “We need to see her.”

The doctor nodded. “Then let’s go. But remember—let her speak first.”

As they hurried down the hall, their hearts pounded with fear, uncertainty, and one final, terrifying truth.

Whatever Sofi chose… their lives would never be the same.

***

Ella was standing beside lucifer, her expression tense as she approached her mother. “What did the doctor say?” she asked, her voice laced with urgency.

Her mother hesitated before answering, her tone careful. “The situation is more complicated than we thought…”

Lucifer stood nearby, his sharp eyes observing them. He couldn't hear everything, but he caught enough.

A slow smirk spread across his lips. There’s nothing to worry about now.

His gaze flickered toward Sofi’s room. I know her. She won’t abort it.

The weight of certainty settled in his chest. This child is coming into the world—no matter what anyone says.

***

The doctor stepped in front of Sofi’s room , her expression unreadable. She adjusted the file in her hands and looked at Ella. “I need to speak with her.”

Ella immediately straightened. “I’ll come with you.”

The doctor gave a small nod and turned toward Sofi’s room. Ella followed, her heart pounding. She didn’t know how Sofi would react, but she knew she had to be there.

Inside, Sofi lay on the hospital bed, her face pale, her body weak. Her eyelids fluttered as she tried to wake fully. The doctor pulled a chair closer and spoke gently.

“Sofi, how are you feeling?”

Sofi blinked slowly. Her voice was hoarse. “Tired… What happened?”

The doctor took a deep breath. “There’s something important we need to talk about.” She glanced at Ella before continuing. “Sofi, you’re pregnant.”

For a moment, the words didn’t seem to register. Then, Sofi’s eyes widened. “No… that’s not… that can’t be…” Her breath hitched, panic creeping in.

Ella quickly reached for her hand. “Sofi, breathe.”

Sofi shook her head, gripping Ella’s hand tightly. “No, no, no! This isn’t happening. Tell me this isn’t happening!”

The words slammed into her like a punch to the gut. For a moment, her brain refused to process it. “No… no, that’s not possible.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Ella grabbed her hand, squeezing it. “Sofi—”

“No!” Sofi yanked her hand away, her breath quickening. She shook her head violently, as if trying to shake the truth away. “No, no, no. This is a mistake. It has to be a mistake.”

The doctor remained calm but firm. “I ran all the necessary tests. There’s no mistake, Sofi.”

Tears welled up in her eyes, her chest rising and falling erratically. “But I… I took the pills. I—” Her voice broke. “How did this happen?”

The doctor leaned forward slightly. “The medication should have worked, but in rare cases, it fails. Your body was already weak… that could have played a role.”

Sofi’s breathing turned shallow. Her nails dug into her arms, panic clawing at her insides. “No… I can’t… I can’t have this baby.”

Ella quickly wrapped her arms around her, holding her tightly. “Sofi, breathe. Please, breathe.”

Sofi’s body trembled violently. She clutched onto Ella as if she were the only thing keeping her from falling apart completely. “Ella… tell me this isn’t real,” she pleaded.

Ella swallowed hard, her own eyes glistening. “I wish I could.”

The doctor’s voice remained calm but firm. “I know this is hard to process, but we have to talk about what comes next.”

Tears welled in Sofi’s eyes. “Next? What do you mean ‘next’? I can’t—” Her voice broke, and she gasped for air. “I don’t want this.”

Ella squeezed her hand. “I’m here. I’ve got you.”

The doctor gave them a moment before continuing. “Sofi, your body is weak. Carrying the child will be difficult, but it’s not impossible. However, if you choose abortion… there are risks.”

Sofi swallowed hard. “Risks?”

The doctor nodded. “Your body wasn’t prepared for pregnancy. Aborting now could affect your ability to conceive in the future.”

Sofi stiffened. “You mean… I might never have kids?”

The doctor didn’t sugarcoat it. “There’s a possibility.”

Silence filled the room. Ella’s grip on Sofi’s hand tightened.

Sofi’s breathing grew uneven again. “I don’t know what to do…”

Ella cupped her face, forcing Sofi to look at her. “You don’t have to decide right now. You’re not alone in this. We’ll figure it out together, okay?”

Tears spilled down Sofi’s cheeks. She nodded shakily, leaning into Ella’s embrace as silent sobs wracked her body.

The doctor gave them space, watching Sofi carefully. “Whatever you choose, we’ll support you. But you need to make the decision with a clear mind, not fear.”

Sofi could only nod, her mind spinning.

Ella held her tighter. “You don’t have to be afraid. I promise, whatever happens… I’ll stand by you.”

The doctor gave Sofi a long, understanding look before standing up. “Take your time,” she said softly.

She walked to the door, her hand resting on the handle. As she pulled it open, the dim light from the hallway spilled into the room.

Lucifer, who had been pacing outside, immediately moved forward, desperate to catch even a fragment of their conversation. His heart pounded in anticipation—he needed to know what Sofi had decided.

Then, her voice cut through the air like a blade.

“I want to abort it.”

Lucifer stopped mid-step.

The words slammed into him, knocking the breath from his lungs. His entire body stiffened, his hands curling into fists at his sides.

No.

His Sofi wouldn’t say that.

She couldn’t have said that.

His Sofi wouldn’t kill their child.

Yet, her voice echoed in his mind, over and over, shattering every bit of certainty he had.

The doctor stepped out, closing the door behind her. But Lucifer didn’t move. He couldn’t.

Because in that moment, everything changed.

He exhaled sharply, trying to control the fire roaring inside him.

I won’t let you do this, Sofi.

Not now.

Not ever.

To be continued…

Author note:  What if this chapter didn’t go as it did, but instead, it went like this (This isn’t part of the story, but for a second, I felt like writing it this way.) :

"She has to abort it " ella said.

Lucifer’s grip on Ella’s hand tightened—just slightly, but enough for her to notice. His expression remained unreadable, his breathing slow and measured.

"Ella," he finally spoke, his voice devoid of warmth now. "That’s not your decision to make."

She flinched at his tone, her own hands trembling as she tried to pull away, but he didn’t let her.

"What do you mean?" she whispered, staring at him, searching for something—an explanation, an ounce of understanding.

Lucifer tilted his head, his gaze unreadable. "It’s her choice. And she might want to keep it ."

Ella’s breath hitched. She shook her head as if trying to shake off the weight of his words. "No… No, Lucifer, she can’t. You don’t understand—she’ll never be able to love that child. She’ll suffer for the rest of her life!"

His jaw tightened. "And you think forcing her to abort it will make her feel any less broken?" His voice was eerily calm, but his fingers twitched, betraying the storm within him.

Ella swallowed hard. "I just—"

"Enough." His voice was sharp now, a quiet command that made her freeze. He finally released her hand, but the air between them had changed, thick with tension.

Lucifer leaned back, watching her. "This isn’t your choice, Ella. It’s Sofi’s. But I want her to keep it "

Ella’s chest rose and fell, her mind racing. But the way he looked at her… something about it sent a chill down her spine.

"Why…?" she murmured, almost afraid to ask. "Why does it matter so much to you?"

Lucifer didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he exhaled slowly, his fingers tapping against his thigh. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he met her gaze.

"Because," he said softly, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips—one that didn’t reach his eyes.

"It’s mine."
