Chapter 20

With each passing session, Victor and Elena’s bond grew stronger. Their therapy sessions became more than just professional encounters; they turned into conversations filled with depth and understanding. While Victor worked on her healing, he also took the time to know her on a personal level.

Initially, Victor started with small talk, easing her into their discussions. Elena, an introvert by nature, was hesitant at first, her answers brief and guarded. But as the weeks passed and she grew more comfortable, she began to open up.

Victor took careful note of every detail she shared—her favorite books, the way her eyes lit up when she spoke about her dreams, her subtle laugh when recounting a childhood memory. He learned what made her smile and what left her feeling vulnerable. With every session, Victor’s obsession deepened.

“She’s special,” he thought after one of their sessions. “So unlike anyone else.”

Elena began to trust him completely. With Victor, she felt safe, heard, and understood in a way she hadn’t experienced with anyone else. She started to share things she hadn’t even told her closest friends.

Victor, however, was not just learning about Elena—he was falling for her. His feelings were no longer professional or ethical. Each session left him yearning for more. He couldn’t help but imagine a life where Elena wasn’t just his patient but his partner.

---

One day, as Victor was heading to the hospital, something caught his attention—a diamond ring in a jewelry store window. The delicate sparkle of the ring made him stop in his tracks.

“How perfect it would look on Elena,” he murmured to himself, unable to take his eyes off the display.

Before he could think twice, he walked into the store. The idea of someone else claiming her was unbearable.

“I need to buy it,” he decided, picking the most beautiful ring they had.

Once he left the shop, the ring nestled securely in a small velvet box, he couldn’t resist taking it out to look at it again. The thought of slipping it onto Elena’s finger filled him with a mix of excitement and impatience.

“I can’t wait to see this on you, Elena,” he whispered as he placed the box carefully in his coat pocket.

---

Back at the hospital, Victor sat at his desk, turning the box over in his hands, lost in his thoughts. He was startled when a nurse knocked on his door.

“Elena is ready for her therapy session,” she said.

Victor’s heart leaped at the mention of her name. His face lit up with an uncontainable smile.

“Thank you,” he said, locking the ring in his drawer before making his way to the therapy room.

---

When Victor entered the room, he immediately noticed something unusual. Elena wasn’t sitting in her usual spot on the therapy couch. Instead, she was seated by his desk, her posture tense and her expression thoughtful.

“Elena?” he called softly, moving toward her. “Is everything alright? You’re not in your usual chair.”

She greeted him with a faint smile, but he could sense something was off.

“Hi, Dr. Victor,” she said, her voice quieter than usual.

Victor pulled a chair closer and sat down across from her, his eyes scanning her face. “What’s on your mind? You seem troubled.”

She hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. “I… I need to tell you something important.”

Victor’s heart sank, but he maintained his calm demeanor. “Of course. You can tell me anything, Elena. What’s bothering you?”

She took a deep breath, her hands fidgeting in her lap. “I’ve been accepted into a university program abroad. I’ll be moving in two weeks.”

Victor froze, her words hitting him like a blow. “Abroad?” he repeated, trying to keep his voice steady. “For how long?”

“It’s a two-year program,” she explained. “I’ve been planning for this for a while.”

“And your therapy?” he asked, his voice soft but firm. “Elena, this progress you’ve made—it’s important. You can’t just stop now.”

“I know,” she said quickly, her tone apologetic. “I’ll find a therapist there, or maybe we can schedule video sessions. I don’t want to lose the progress I’ve made either.”

Victor leaned forward, his voice calm but laced with an urgency she couldn’t ignore. “Elena, video calls won’t be the same. Therapy requires connection—being in the same space, feeling understood. Are you sure this is the right time for such a big change?”

“I’ve thought it through,” she assured him. “This opportunity means a lot to me. I can’t pass it up.”

Victor’s jaw clenched subtly, but he forced a gentle smile. “When are you leaving?”

“In two weeks,” she said, her voice tinged with both excitement and regret.

Victor nodded slowly, his mind racing. “Alright,” he said after a pause. “But promise me one thing.”

“What is it?” she asked, curiosity in her tone.

“Attend one last session with me tomorrow. Let’s make it count. No interruptions, no distractions. Just us, wrapping this up properly.”

Elena hesitated, then nodded. “Alright, Victor. One last session tomorrow.”

Victor’s lips curled into a soft smile, though his mind was already formulating plans. “Thank you, Elena. Let’s make it a session you’ll never forget.”
